A rainy Sunday

It's Sunday and the rain has been coming down since last night.  We have a mini pond out front where the water is collecting.  I expect to see ducks before too long!

I am still adhering to the No Buy 2025 and making purchases only as needed.  I don't buy books now either - I use the library and if they don't have my book/DVD, I utilize their inter library loan program to borrow a book from a participating source.

When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One,” Trump said at a press conference in August 2024, targeting voters who have been dissatisfied with the price of goods.

How's that going? 👆

This week....

Watching / We are still enjoying MASH and are on to season two now.

Just in from the library is season three of London Kills.  We had watched the first two seasons a few years ago and never got back to it.  Will see if it still appeals.

Reading / I just finished James Rebanks second book Pastoral Song.

For Mailbox Monday the library came through for me with three books.

A nonfiction by Terry Gross titled All I Did Was Ask

Rosamunde Pilcher's Voices in Summer

Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisted

I'll most likely start Brideshead Revisited as it's the book selected for The Classics Spin.

Hope your week is going well and you have lots of good books and joy in your life.

  1. I remember reading several of Rosamunde Pilcher's novels in the 80s. I haven't gotten to the Waugh yet, but hope to read it before the next spin rolls around. M*A*S*H is a classic.

    1. Hi Kelly, Pilcher is usually a comfort read but i like her big fat novels best. I am already working on my next Spin List, revising a bit but saving a few titles. Thanks for the visit.

  2. Enjoy Waugh. It’s been a while since I read his books.

  3. Thank you, Tina, for linking to the buying ban. I've been doing it for a while now. It seems like that's the only way some people listen. Greed has no limits, I think.

I'm using my library a lot. I think I have twenty things requested for the spring!

    1. Deb, if you google the term you can find many articles about it. You are correct, greed has no limits...sadly.
That's a good amount of requests and i have a similar list.

  4. Will you be reading Brideshead Revisited this week? Maybe I'll read it with you, lol. An e-copy cost me .99 cents. I haven't read it before. I hope your rain stops and hopefully our wind will stop. It's like 60 mph today. Loved watching MASH in the '70s.

    1. Susan, it's STILL raining and it was hard to find a break to get Loki out. I can start reading Brideshead tomorrow if you want to join in. .99 is a great price!

You have high winds there. Our son in Nebraska gets days on end of high windy weather. Nothing stops the wind across a plain.

    2. Oh I didn't realize he was in Nebraska. Does he like it? The wind took off one of the tops of our poplar trees yesterday sigh. We are thinking of putting in a row of spruce trees to break the wind a bit. Hmm. Did it ever stop raining? Must have ponds there by now. I'm thinking of reading a few chapters today of BR ... after I read some of the book I was reading The Riveter.

    3. Tristan does like Nebraska but he misses us. I talk to him on the phone several times a week and we have managed to get up there once a year to see everyone.
Wow, that's some wind to take off the top of a tree!
I started BR and have only read about 50 pages, got distracted with something else with a pending due date.

  5. I’m a big MASH fan and have come back to watching it over and over since the series completed. I am also on a book buying ban - we need to save as much money as possible to deal with the tariffs!

    1. I agree 100% about the saving of money and mkaing a statement any way we can. We are also big fans of MASH and it's a fun series to revisit.

    1. Vicki, we are enjoying it, it's been a long time since we'd watched the series.

  7. I don't think I'll live long enough to read the books on my bookshelves or on my Kindle. Does that mean I won't buy new ones? I plead the 5th LOL. I hope you enjoy your library books - I also read a lot from my local public library. Have a good week!

    1. Mary, I feel the same way as I am heading towards 70 but I will give it a good effort :-) I use the library so much, it's a life saver. Hope your week is a good one too!

  8. When I was growing up in the late 70s, we'd tune into MASH every night. I remember crying as we watched the series finale. Such a great show!

I'm not buying anything other than groceries and gas these days. I've been stocking up when I go to the store, whenever I see something I typically buy is on sale. I also stocked up on a lot of items when I went to Costco last week. We should be good for the apocalypse! I also dropped my Audible membership and will use the library and/or Libro.fm for audiobooks. I need to do some research on Spotify and see if I have issues with whomever owns that company...

We've watched two seasons of London Kills, but aren't interested in the third season. Are you enjoying it? I'm also interested to hear your thoughts on the Pilcher novella. I prefer her longer novels.

    1. Les, we did too, watch MASH in the evenings. I was actually suspended from work for going to an MASH event for that last big episode. It's a story...

Good for you buying less, hurt the billionaires when we can. I mean, some may say it's a drop in the bucket for one person to protest with their wallet but when many people do it, it is noticed. Home Depot donates lots of money to trump and has for all his campaigns so when I need something from a box store, I go to Lowes or a local hardware store. F**k Home Depot!

Turned out we watched seasn 3 of London Kills - ha! So I grabbed season 4 and we like it. I think it's better than the first two. What I am looking forward to is season 2 of Blue Lights. Will let you know when I get to Pilcher. I also like her long fat novels best.

  10. I've only watched MASH in reruns and only in bits and pieces. I really should make an effort to watch it from start to finish. I'm doing a no buy or at least a limited buy for a bit. I have so much stuff that I need to use or read and I need to do that before I add to the piles! We are watching the latest season of Drive to Survive and then will be back to watching Death in Paradise.

    1. Katherine, we have the entire series so it's nice to pop a DVD in when we are in the mood. But we are watching it in order. I haven;t heard of Drive to Survive, will look at that on IMDB

  11. Yep. The economy is not great and the blame train continues.

I utilize the library a lot but now that Kindle is not allowing you to download files via USB it's really messed me up. I used to be able to download a library copy and then read it when I want but now I can't do that. I still request titles but have to read them right away and with review copies too, I sometimes can't.

    1. Ti, that's too bad about the kindle downloads. I have not used the USB way to get books, just the personal hotspot. Hope you get it resolved soon.

  12. That's great that you're doing the No Buy thing. I'm doing the boycott things and I gotta say I am glad the Amazon boycott ends TOMORROW because I need a new power thingy for my Chromebook. And I'll be using my gift card balance, so that's kind of not buying from Amazon, right? Cuz it's not my money??? I need to see what we're boycotting next. Oh, Nestle. Yikes. That one is going to be harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd. But I will do it.

    1. Jinjer, I mean you buy what you need and this is just a personal choice. It's one way for the billionaires running this country to take note. Will it hurt them? Not as much as you'd hope, but the more folks who don't put money n their pockets will sure make a dent. You ought to get your Chrome charger!

    2. The Amazon boycott ended yesterday so now I can buy the charger. Woo hoo!
