Just a quick post taking a break from packing. After 33 years in this house I am still amazed by how much we have accumulated. Car loads have been taken to a charity shop yet there is still all this...stuff. I posted about the sale of our home Here and since then we've managed to get a moving quote, pack up the immense quantity of music CDs, just about all the DVDs and many books.
It will certainly be weird yet cool to have access to the Internet but in the meantime, this is what I have entertainment wise this week.
Library Loot - I'd not seen either of these series and but started Poldark last night and like it. Poldark's time period is just after the American Revolutionary War and the setting is Cornwall. Ross Poldark returns to his home in Cornwall after serving as a soldier only to find his father has died and the woman he loves engaged to his cousin.
Does your library sell magazines? People kindly donate magazines, books and DVDs for the library sale table. It's like shopping locally :-) I picked up this issue of Better Homes and Gardens called Global Flavors. We tried the steak and snow pea yakisoba.
Next time I will add water chestnuts. It was good and I see you could replace the sirloin with boneless chicken if desired.
I have never watched Poldark but I have seen RFDS and think it's great. I read somewhere that they started filming it's third season last September, so I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival here on PBS. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteStacy, I am looking forward to trying RFD as I'd read a few books about the serve over the years. there is a nonfiction called Sugar Bird Lady I read about 20 years ago and the lady doctor explains how they get to remote areas and different medical situations.
DeleteI've heard that Poldark is really good. I'll have to try an episode or two to see if Rod would enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteLes, we have watched a few episodes and enogh to know we wil finish this season. I like the actors and that scenery is fantastic. Apparently there is an older Poldark show as well but we have the newest.
DeleteI somehow have never watched Poldark but I fully mean to try it soon. I love the Cornwell setting. Good luck with the moving. It feels so never ending with all the bits and pieces to deal with but it'll be worth it hopefully once you're all settled!
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I can't wait until it's done and we are in our last home ever. It's not downsizing as much as we planned but the house is in a dynamite location and laid out well. I feel bad for Loki though. He will miss his field.
DeleteI liked the first season or two of Poldark but dropped it somewhere along the way. The Royal Flying Doctor Service looks interesting, too. I haven't heard of either the service or the show before.
ReplyDeleteJoy, we will definitely finish season one and I might be able to get season 2 before we unhook the tv.
DeleteThe dinner looks good! It sounds like you are doing well with the packing. 33 years! I didn't realize you have found your new home. Is it in town? You will be all set come June though it'll take a while to unpack & settle. I hope you will all love it.
ReplyDeleteSusan, the dinner was excellent and I would definitely make again. Surprisingly the packing isn't as bad as I thought. It is time consuming but the number of items we have donated and sold has made things easier. Email coming up :-)
DeleteMy sister put me onto Poldark. She went on to read all the Poldark books (and there are a LOT of them).
ReplyDeleteI'm imagining all the sorting and discarding and packing that is going on at your house right now. We've lived in our house for forty years and I can't even think about doing something with all the rocks (my husband's) and books (mine).
Deb, that's a series I may want to try reading. I love a series.
DeleteOh, after 33 years here we have so much to sort. There's our stuff, my stuff, Doug's stuff and still some of our son's as well!
I'm not sure how many books there are in the Poldark series, but it was a lot!
DeleteI watched some of Poldark when it came out years ago but I didn't finish it! I will be interested in hearing what you think about RFDS. It is a cherished national institution here in Australia, especially for those who live in the outback!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your packing.
Have a great week!
Marg, I am looking forward to the RFDS series. When I read the book Sugar Bird Lady about that service I enjoyed it. The kids in the Outback called her sugar bird lady because she brought vaccines in the form of sugar cubes.
DeleteI loved Poldark when PBS showed it!
ReplyDeleteMary
Mary, we will probably get season two...like this one very much.
DeleteCongrats on all your packing accomplishments this week! I know how tedious and stressful it can be. That food looks gooooooooooooooooooooood.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jinjer! You do indeed know about packing up an entire house, it's very time consuming and we aren't going across country as you did. Whew!
DeleteThat beef dish was great and I want to make it again.
