Posted this week / Mailbox Monday where I shared my library haul of 9 books and a DVD. We watched Chernobyl, vey grim but fascinating. I've read two of the books so far and also made a recipe from the air fryer cookbook.
Books read / Seascraper by Benjamin Wood. This very short book was a buddy read with Susan.
The Second Chance Convenient Store by Ho-Yeon Kim.
This isn't my typical genre but the short 206 page story was a nice read. Set in Korea, Mrs. Yeom is traveling and realizes she has lost her wallet and valuables.
A man named Dokgo calls her to say he has found her wallet and she arranges to meet him. He is homeless but with an interesting back story as to why he ended up that way. Mrs. Yeom owns convenience store and grateful for his kindness she offers him help by feeding him. While Dokgo doesn't accept at first, his character development shows us about trust, forgiveness and kindness.
Currently reading / Well, I started Horse by Geraldine Brooks and it pulled me in. But it's a physical book with smallish font and I am considering waiting until my Kindle hold for this title comes in.
That's all I have for this week. Maybe make some bread for the neighbors who are down with the flu and plan a safe handoff :-)

Seascraper sounds like an interesting story. I'll see if I can get it from the library. Same with Horse. I'm trying to not buy so many books in 2026. My TBR shelves are bursting at the seams!
ReplyDeleteLes, it was a good book and very short. I am going to try and do as you are and read what I have on hand. I will still use the library but try hard to read from the Kindle and shelves. The book Horse has my attention but I may well turn it in and wait on the Kindle book. I am #8 in line for it.
DeleteQuite literary choices for this time of year, I’m all about the frivolous right now :). I know I should read more of Brooks though
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shelleyrae. I am also reading some lighter books and making my lists for next year.
DeleteSeascraper sounds good! I'm glad that it worked well for you.
ReplyDeleteJoy, it was well written and I enjoyed it.
DeleteI have had a copy of Horse on my shelf forever. I really need to try it. I've heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeleteI might need to request an air fryer cookbook from my library. I suspect Santa may be gifting us with one!
Deb, I started it and am liking it but now have decided to waiit for the Kindle version. It's not too unwieldy but the font isn't as big as I like. Especially for evening reading. So...I think I will turn it in and let someone who is waiting have the book. I can wait 6 weeks for Kindle!
DeleteOh, we love the air fryer. It makes such good french fries and coconut shrimp. And chicken thighs are great too. Twenty minutes at 360 degrees.
Nice reviews and thanks for the buddy read of Seascraper. I still feel the rain and the sinkpit, lol. I hope you like the Brooks novel. I just heard that Geraldine Brooks helped Kamala Harris with her memoir 107 Days. Wow I didnt know that! (Now I'm a little more interested.)
ReplyDeleteSusan, thank you so much., It was a good book and always fun readng with you. That fever dream was something.
DeleteI did not know Brooks helped with that Harris book. Hmmmm
The Second Chance Convenience Store looks so good. I am glad that you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteErin, it's an uplifting story. I think you may like it.
DeleteBoth of your read books look good. I love cozy fiction so The Second Chance Convenience Store is really calling to me. I need to try something by Geraldine Brooks. I've heard such good things about her writing.
