If it's rainy I'll be reading.....

It's been raining  off and on for days and my flowers are thriving. I suppose I will plant more at the new house next week as I love the vibrant colors.

Library Loot

I was not expecting Frozen River to be available to me for weeks as I was number 22 on the hold list so I didn't think to suspend it.  The library does rent books when one is popular so I suppose that's what happened here.  Either way, I will tuck into this fat novel and hope to finish in my timeframe allotted.

Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm and Demi Moore was also available so we started watching it as we are done with season one of Jack Irish.  It's great so far but if you are offended by the F bomb, be warned.

A new addition of Book Page is available and I found several books for my TBR.  A highlight is Daughters of the Bamboo Grove,  a nonfiction by Barbara Demick.  There is an interview with the author and I found it interesting.

"Daughters of the Bamboo Grove tells the gripping story of separated twins, their respective fates in China and the USA, and Barbara Demick's role in reuniting them against huge odds. Painting a rich portrait of China's history and culture, it asks questions about the roots, impact and consequences of China's one-child policy, the ethics of international adoption, and, ultimately, the assumptions and narratives we hold about the quality of lives lived in the East and the West."

I don't usually drop the money for a new publication but I am mighty tempted for this one.

That's my week's Mailbox Monday and Sunday Salon.  Hope you received some goodies this week.

  2. Good luck getting through Frozen River before it is due back at the library. I had to return a book this past week that I hadn't had time to get to, it is disappointing for sure.

  3. What bright and colorful flowers! I'm just starting to learn about flowers. What grows well in your part of the world usually does well here, too.

Sometimes I just can't wait for a book to finally show up at one of my libraries. But, by then, I've usually built up great expectations for the book, and it almost inevitably disappoints me. lol

    1. Deb, I think we are in the same planting zone. The day lillies did well and I was surprised the Caladiums came back for the third year in a row. I'd thought cold would have killed them.

So far I am liking the Frozen River so hopefully I can finish it in time.

  4. Bamboo Grove is at our library, I put it on my list. Frozen River I recommended to my BFF.
Lots of rain here too. Looking forward to season 2 of Landman.

    1. Jackie, oh we are Loving Landman! Every episode is so explosive and the rants from Tommy and that young attorney are fantastic. We have 4 episodes left to finish so you can see where we are. Taylor Sheridan also wrote the show The Lioness and that's good. Looking forward to season 2 of that one.

  7. I have that same daylily in my yard. (The first one.) But none of mine are open yet. I enjoyed Landman. I think we’ve already finished the season though.

    1. Olivia, we just finished Landman last night. Good series but i could do without the exwife being a pain in the tail. I have clustered lilles so we get a good spread of blooms.

  8. Your flowers look beautiful! I've been thinking about you as your move gets close. Hope it all goes smoothly. My daughter and her husband closed on their new house Friday, but won't officially move in for another month or so. Will send you an email this week.

    1. Thank you, JoAnn. I love the flowers and took many of my potted plants to the new house a week ago as the seller was kind enough to let us put them on the back porch.
Glad your daughter has the closing behind them. I can;t wait for ours to finish this Friday. It will be nice to have her so close to you when you are in CT.

  10. Your daylilies are beautiful! I love the dark orange especially. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on Frozen River. I've had that happen a few times with audio books and it's so surprising!

    1. Thanks, Katherine. There are so many color variations and I like to mix them up in a large flower bed. I don't think I can finish Frozen River before I move but I am liking it so far.

  11. Those lilies are very pretty! It sounds like there's been a lot of rain on the east coast, but Oregon has been dry for almost 6 weeks!

Landman has a great cast, but I'm not sure it's for us. We watch a lot of shows with Fbombs (currently watching Dept Q, which has A LOT), so that's not an issue. Maybe we'll give it a try.

    Good luck with your move!

    1. Les, beautiful flowers really brighten my day. We have had so much rain and I would love to give you some! We loved Landman and van't wait for the next season. I see it streams on Paramount and Amazon so maybe we will subscribe to one of those as they also have Lioness.

The time to get out of here is upon us! Last night to sleep here now and we will be in a hotel tomorrow. Maybe I can watch some baseball!
