2026 Nonfiction Reader Challenge at Book'd Out

It's that time of year to think about the 2026 Nonfiction Challenge hosted by Shellyrae at Book'd Out.  Count me in this year.

Here is the signup intel and here are the categories below which I shamelessly copied from Shelleyrae's blog. 👇

Nonfiction Nibbler: Read & review 6 books, from any 6 listed categories

Nonfiction Nosher: Read & review 12 books, one for each category

Nonfiction Grazer: Read & review any nonfiction book. Set your own goal, or none at all, just share the nonfiction you read through the year.

Lost or found
Television

I have a few books in mind for next year:

Wild Ride: I.V. Drips and Rocket Ships by Halley Arceneaux

A Time Remembered: American Women in the Vietnam War by Olga Gruhzit-Hoyt

Daughters of the Bamboo Grove by Barbara Demick

A Bunker in Kyiv: The Astonishing Story of the People's Army Defying Putin

I'd love to know some of the nonfiction titles on your radar.  This year I am signing up for the Grazer but hope I can manage 12. Join in, it's always fun!

  1. Oh good. I think I will join the challenge too. Your books picked look interesting. I have a lot of nonfiction books lying around the house I havent read -- so maybe this is the year! I keep more nonfiction books than novels which I can get from the library. I take more notes with nonfiction.

    1. Susan, I had planned the Daughters of the Bamboo Grove for my first book of the year. I sent my photo in to Sheila at Book Journey for her annual event.
I also keep notes more on nonfiction, and bookmark lots too. It would be fun to join in! I get so many ideas about nonfiction fro this challenge.

  2. I usually stick with my one nonfiction challenge in November, but maybe I should try this one. I have so many books to read that are nonfiction, and then tend to languish on my shelves. These are just a few: Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child (Bob Spitz), Radium Girls (Kate Moore), Lab Girl (Hope Jahren), The Demon of Unrest (Erik Larson), The Emperor of all Maladies (Siddhartha Mukherjee), A Woman of No Importance (Sonia Purnell), No Ordinary Time (Doris Kearns Goodwin) - I started this one back in 1999!, and A Walk in the Park (Kevin Fedarko). Good luck with your picks!

    1. Les, I like reading the nonfiction anytime during the year so this works for me. You don't have to read one a month, or you can read 4 a month....whatever your mood is. I would like to read the Julia Child book and I thinkn a few more of your titles.

  4. Some of these categories will be hard for me: True Crime, South East Asia, Lost or Found, Television, and Subculture. I will have to use my imagination and figure out books that sort-of fit the categories.

    1. Deb, Shelleyrae has suggestions for the categories which is helpful. For True Crime may i suggestion The Art Thief, if you haven't already read it.
Plus, you can do the nonfiction grazer category which is any nonfiction!
