Well I don't have much to contribute to any bookish news but felt like posting anyway. It's been one of those weeks.
Took a quick trip to the library and picked up the March edition of Book Page. Found some good suggestions for upcoming publications and added those to Goodreads.
Currently reading M.L. Stedman's new book A Far-Flung Life. It's been fifteen years since she broke my heart reading The Light Between the Oceans, keeping me up until midnight finishing that one. Now I am totally absorbed with this new book. She can write tragedy like no one else I have ever read. The weather cooperated so I could sit outside and read these past few days.
Went to the nursery and picked up some seeds to plant in a few weeks. The white alyssum is doing very well out front and spreading like wildfire. So I want to try this multi color pack and see what that looks like blended in. Also have columbine and some Japanese eggplant, for out back.
Last and almost least...because the coffee wasn't remarkable but the beignets were...we tried a new-to-us place for a treat.
Hot and so good.
That's it. All I have going. Just in a funk mood but wanted to connect. Wishing anyone who reads this a happy fun week filled with books and joy.

I can't wait to hear what you think of A Far-flung Life. I loved it and will definitely read it again someday. My mom's reading it right now, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm envious that you can sit outside and read. It's still too chilly and rainy here. Not that we have much sun on our property. That's what we get for living in a forest!
I'm ready to start The Likeness whenever you are. Just let me know.
Les, I'm almost done and will finish this morning. The tragic happenings in this book, just wow. I think i like her first book more by a tiny bit but this is so engrossing. Yes, I can start the Likeness this evening, let's do it!
DeleteWow those French donuts look good. I haven't had a beignet yet. I'm glad you're enjoying A Far-Flung Life ... poor poor Matt, quite a secret to cover up. Stedman does know her way around a lot of tragedy. And I'm envious of your gardening and planting. We still have 6+ inches of snow! But next week is forecasted to be in the 60s. So mud season will be back. Hope cheerier days are ahead. Happy reading in the sun.
ReplyDeleteSusan, the donuts were good and a treat don't often have, so many calories. But you need a treat now and then.
DeleteI finished the Stedman book and same as last time, left me thinking about the characters, made me cry over a scene with Peachy, so much emotion in that book.
Six inches of snow?! We have cooler temps today but will get in the 30s again next week for a bit. Up and down.
We have a Beignets and Brews here and love it! The beignets are yummy and I always get an iced chai which is my favorite. I'm debating starting an herb garden this year. I have a raised bed that I've let just fill with weeds that I really should do something with.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I dodn't know it was a chain and when it opened we couldn't wait to try it. Doug is picky about coffee and while I'm not super picky, I did find it weak, The beignets were very good though.
DeleteAn herb garden would be fun. You could pick your rosemary or basil or oregano as needed. have not had one in years. Today I plant lavender.
We love beignets!! There's a New Orleans themed restaurant here that serves them with your choice of dipping sauce - chocolate, caramel, or strawberry. All of them are delicious. They even serve a savory variety as an appetizer. I enjoyed your minimally bookish post. I haven't had much blogging motivation lately, but will hope to pop in with at least a couple of mini-reviews this week. Love your books photo and glad to see your goodreads rating, too. Have a good week, Tina!
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, those beignets at your New Orleans place sound very good. They offer a variety here and some with nutella or strawberry. We will have to go back sometime. No coffee there though. Doug has recently gotten this huge espresso machine that he had to clear his bar for it to fit. The bourbon has been relocated!
DeleteI need a bigger kitchen :-)
I will look forward to your reviews upcoming. Hoping today I can get a short review up for A Far-Flung Life. What a book!
Gosh I haven't had a beignet and a cafe au lait with that chicory stuff in it in SO LONG. Wish I had one right now! That treeeeeeeeeee is so pretty! Bradford pear? I hope you're having a better week this week!
ReplyDeleteJinjer, the tree is very pretty but man, doesn't it stink when the flowers are on it. It's a Callery Pear, like a Bradford. Since the bloom season is so short we will probably keep it. I highly recommend you rectify this beignet situation and get a few!
DeleteI was so happy to arrive home after nine days away and find your lovely letter there. Now I just need to buy a new cool pen and reply.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to taste those beignets.
There’s so much powder on those beignets LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope the Alyssum take and give you a colourful garden for Spring.
