Lots and lots of books....

Saturday already.  I've been trying to get myself organized with the books I want to review as well as the next books in queue.  Let's talk books first.

Currently reading two nonfictions. Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green and Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton.

My reading buddy, Loki, enjoying some sunshine while I sit in the shade.

Raising Hare is hard to put down and I'll most likely be done with both nonfictions before the end of the weekend.

Finished Buckeye by Patrick Ryan (review in link).  This is a good one for a book club discussion.

Here is my list of books I hope to get off the shelf or read on Kindle.

Wish You Were Here by Stewart O'Nan

The Coast Road by Alan Murrin

Red Sauce, Brown Sauce: A British Breakfast Odyssey by Felicity Cloake - Nonfiction

But wait! ....the library holds came in so...here is what I received.

The Rest of Our Lives by Benjamin Markovits and More Than Enough by Anna Quindlen.  Let's see how I can balance these with due dates and length of books. Yikes.

Watching

We don't subscribe to Britbox but we did manage to get season 3 of Blue Lights from the library on DVD. Police (Peelers as they are called in Northern Ireland) work the streets in Belfast.  Gritty and tense, great police drama if you like them.  We had the previous two seasons from the library as well.  Hope they do a fourth season.

  1. Jason binged Blue Lights not long ago and absolutely loved it. It's a little too dark for my watching preferences (I'm more of a Death in Paradise Fan) but he loved it. Loki looks quite happy sitting in the sun. My dog doesn't like temperatures over 75 so is usually trying to find the shade but I love sitting in the sun so we are the reverse! I have Everything is Tuberculosis on my TBR and you have me curious about Raising Hare. I'm enjoying all the books I'm reading at the moment but I keep getting distracted by other things which is slowing my reading down a lot.

    1. Katherine, Blue Lights is gritty for sure but I love the interactions. Now if you all have tried Bloodlands, also in northern Ireland...that one is dark. We quit on that one.
That's funny about the dog and you seeking sun and him not. I just don't like this heat but...it's where I settled. For my sins, lol.
I get distracted by other books all the time. Raising Hare is hard to put down and the descriptions are great.

  2. Loki is so cute as a reading buddy. Glad you are liking Raising Hare - there were a couple chapters towards the end that hit my heart. What an interesting story of a hare trusting a human and vice versa. Your next reads and the show looks good. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks, Susan. He is my constant companion, rarely letting me out of his sight. Even in rooms he does not belong, lol.
Oh, this book is great. Makes me think of the things I could observe when we lived rural verses out little neighborhood now. But her experience is quite unique. Hope to review in a few days and move to the "book goal".

  3. You're reading two books that are my list. A neighbor read and loved Raising Hare, so I'll get to it later this summer. John Green is always worth reading and I've heard nothing but great things about his latest book.

Oh, I spotted The Rest of Our Lives on the new release shelf at the library yesterday, but didn't think to get it since I know nothing about it. You'll have to keep me posted. I'm eager to read Quindlen's new novel, too.

We haven't watched any of Blue Lights, but it's on my list. Just finished watching the new Maigret series. We've watched the older version and this new one was just as good, if not better. Now we're starting Young Wallander. It's pretty gritty, but so far, so good.

Loki looks very happy to be out in the sunshine!

Hope all is well. You've been missed in the blogosphere!

    1. Les, I liked the way Green writes but it's nonfiction, that said maybe I would like his fiction books. I will give them a try eventually. Love Raising Hare!

I started Quindlen last night but didn't get far. Just because I was tired, not bored. Hoping to get some reading in this afternoon when I am inside during the hottest parts of the day.
We really enjoyed all 3 seasons of Blue Lights but we get it from the library as we aren't subscrobed to BritBox. Wallander is on our Peacock streaming starring Kenneth Branagh but I think that's a different show than the one you are watching. Let me know!

    2. Yes, Young Wallander is on Netflix. I like it, so maybe when we finish we'll watch the "old" Wallander series.

  4. I miss my mom's screened in porch for reading outside. My apartment complex has a nice big lawn out front under a huge oak tree that would be perfect for reading outside, but unfortunately, I'm too a-scared of bugs. Flying, crawling...plus every dog that goes by pees and/or poops in our yard so there's that.

Speaking of dogs, lil Loki is looking very cute on his reading blanket!

    1. Jinjer, a screened porch is great for reading and keeps the bugs off. In the mornings I can't go out though because the rabbits sit there to eat and I don't want to run them off. I hate when Loki sees them through the door because he barks and they bounce off.

Blue Lights looks like something I’d watch

    Thanks for sharing your week

  6. We started to watch Blue Lights while our niece was in Northern Ireland for a few months. We had to stop because my husband got too worried about how dangerous the area is. It didn't help to remind ourselves that police shows always make areas look more dangerous than they really are -- otherwise, how would they be dramatic?

    1. Joy, I can certainly understand the concerns, When we were in Ireland almost 20 years ago we heard that if we visited Belfast not to take photos of the graffiti and use some common sense about conversations. We never made it north though, staying in the Republic. The show is very good though and I love the characters.

  7. Loki looks pretty happy there in the sun, but I'd be with you in the shade! So many books mentioned here. I thought Everything is Tuberculosis was great on audio. Despite having a background in healthcare, I still learned a lot. You convinced to give Raising Hare a try. Chloe Dalton will be at my favorite CT indie next month, but her talk coincides with my visit to my parents. After being away all winter, I don't dare postpone that. My hold for the new Anna Q just came in, but I had to suspend it. Haven't read Stewart O'Nan is several years, but I usually enjoy his books. I remember reading Wish You Were Here over a very rainy Labor Day weekend when all our plans got cancelled.

    1. JoAnn, I really need to get my notes together for those books I have finished. That Green book was very informative. Sad how the healthcare system lets many people down.
Oh that would be amazing to see Chloe Dalton! I hope you enjoy the book and I agree that you shouldn't postpone a visit to your folks. I started the Quindlen book and will try and read one off my shelves next.

  8. Raising Hare and Everything is Tuberculosis are two nonfiction books I loved. I used to be able to share my Kindle books with others, but now Amazon doesn't let us do that. I wish I still could; I would send you the breakfast rides around England.
