Home is where the rabbits roam

First off, apologies for not answering emails or visiting blogs for a bit.  I will be catching up soon!

🐇What a week. We have finally moved and unpacked most of the 75 boxes and set up furniture. Last night we were listening to music and realized how relaxed we felt ...it feels like home.  We wondered if there would be an adjustment after spending 33 years in our previous home but we are very happy.

One thing I did not expect was seeing so many rabbits in this closed in neighborhood.  The previous owner said she'd get rabbits and squirrels in the yard and I wondered about that.  We see several loping about across lawns, sitting under trees in the front yards - it's so cool!  We opened the front door to get Loki out for a walk and one was apparently sitting in the flower bed just off the entrance.  Amazing that Loki never saw it run into the bushes.

Books

This past week I posted about the Classic Club Spin and the number that came up is 11 so I will be reading Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay. This is an Australian author with a setting in Australia.

Among the many books I've unpacked I came across these two gems. The Mike Biles book is a fabulous easy to read history about England.

Bored Of the Rings is a parody of J.R.R. Tolkien's book. It's probably out of print. Doug has had it since he was in high school so it's amazing it's not been lost in any of our moves.
Just wanted to share those for British Isles Friday.

  1. Congrats on finally being in your new home!!!! Are you still in Florida? What was the reason for the move? Loki looks like he's settling in nicely! Too funny he missed the bunny!

    1. Jinjer, thanks so much. We are loving the layout and not having stairs and so much more. We signed up for Internet and I feel like we are in the space age, haha!

Yes, still in Florida....I can handle some colder weather (not as much as I grew up with in Pennsylvania and Michigan) but we couldn't find anything to suit both of us farther north. We did some looking in Tennessee...alas.

  2. Ah, congrats on the move! I'm just in the process of starting a move, uuuggh, so much to do. Though I bet you still have a lot to do, somehow there always is. 😁

    1. Thanks, Nicky! There is much to do in anticipation of a move but I started a notebook and labeled the boxes by number, wrote what that box contained in my notebook so it was easier to find things when we moved in. Looking for your slow cooker? Box 37...it works!

  4. Yay for getting settled in your new home! This might sound dumb, but I didn't really know there were classics set in Australia, but it makes sense! I am not a huge classics reader (obviously!).

    1. Cindy, the classics club rule is any book over 25 years old so you can add Lord of the Rings or a Kurt Vonnegut as an example. Some Aussie classics are On the Beach, A Town Like Alice and more by Nevil Shute. Probably more than you wanted to know :-)

  6. I may add Bored Of the Rings to my list. I saw your comment on Debs SS post. I have a movie on my list to watch with an actress named Donna Thomas in it. Is your cousin an actress too?

    1. Vicki, no Donna was a Navy wife who traveled a lot and found an outlet with her quilting skills. So then she wrote a book and ended up writing many more as well as teaching classes.

    2. Ok, I was just wondering. My mom did all the crafty things. I do none of them.

    1. Olivia, it was grueling work and we took soooo much to donate so we didn't move it.

  9. Both of the British books sound good. I think I remember when you got Mike Biles book -- fun to have that resurface!

    1. Joy, that Biles book is one I revisit now and then so it was good to find in when unpacking. Yesterday my project was separating the nonfiction from fiction for shelves.

  10. Wonderful post and so glad to hear that you've unpacked all the boxes (!) and feel relaxed. You've gotten over the major hump in moving! Amazing, and even Loki looks peaceful too. I'm glad you've shared these titles. I could read all three. I just posted my review of Ferrante Book 2. It took me quite a while to figure out how to talk about things in the book. Much to unpack in it. Thx for reading it with me. I'm now done with Ferrante for a while. lol.

    1. Susan, Loki has been settling in well, surprisingly. We left him for an hour yesterday to get groceries and he was good. I saw your review and it's fantastic, captured it all without spoilers. Maybe we can attck the next book one day in the future :-)

  11. So glad your new place feels like home already! Moving is so much work and it sounds like you made a good choice. Will be curious to hear what you think of Picnic at Hangin Rock. That's on my list, too.

    1. JoAnn, I am enjoying Hanging Rock and it makes me want to move some other Aussie classics up such as Nevil Shute's books A Town Like Alice and On the Beach.

Yes, we love it here and wish we'd made the move years ago. We were so hell bent to go north and sad that didn't work out but never cnsidered the benefits of keeping our banking, doctors, insurance...

  12. I'm glad you are settling in and that it already feels like home! I'll bet you're glad to have those boxes unpacked. Moving is always such an emotional & physical drain on one's energy. Those rabbits better watch out for Loki. :)

    1. Les, I saw another rabbit in the yard last night and when Loki looked through the door and saw it he barked, but so far he's just curious. It is good to get rid of all these boxes!

  13. I'm so happy for you---I'm sure it is feeling good to be starting to settle in after a big move. I wondered if your new place would have some nature. It's great that you are enjoying some already!

I'm adding that book about British history to my wishlist.

    1. Deb, the history book is so well written and not dry at all. Wish history had been presented this way when I was in school. We were wondering if we would still hear the birdsong in the neighborhood and wow do we ever. Our home backs up to a greenspace with plants and tress so the bird life is abundant as are the rabbits.

  14. Bored of the Rings is such a fantastic title. Totally cracked me up. We've had more rabbits as we've had more development around us. I think the development is pushing out some of the predators - coyotes and foxes mostly - which means more bunnies.
Yay for getting settled after the move. That always feels like a never ending job and I'm so glad it's been worth it. You asked about the flooring we're doing - carpet in the living room and the two downstairs offices and then wood in the kitchen, dining room, foyer, laundry room, and bathroom. And new countertops. I'm dreading the whole process but am so excited about getting it done! Then once we've recovered we'll do the stairs and the upstairs!

    1. Katherine, it's a silly book but Doug has had it for over 45 years. Quite the parody of LoTR. Love the remodel of the floors and countertops you are doing. When we had a remodel we lived in the RV for 6 weeks and it was hectic getting things removed from the rooms where the workers would be...but SO worth it.
