October round up

First off, a big shout out to Shelleyrae at Book'd Out.  I was so happy to see her posting again and hope to join her for an event next year :-)

The election - I am glad it's over and frankly, I was surprised by the results. I remember way back in the day when things were civil between people, regardless of which party you supported.  If your candiate lost you'd say, oh well...maybe next time, and life went on.

Not so much anymore.  The outward gloating with new yard signs here is unbelievable.

Reading and travel - Last month I didn't get much reading done because of travel but staying in a hotel we were able to watch two games of the World Series!

Here is Loki balancing on a chair while he watches me, him on the bed while we watch the baseball game and a photo of delicious fish tacos and black beans from  Bahama Breeze restaurant.

He was kenneled for a day while we toured houses and had a meal out.

October reading
consists of only two books but no DNF this time.  One book was on my fall reading.

📚📚   Books read  📚

The Woman Behind the Door by Roddy Doyle

Within Arm's Reach by Ann Napolitano

October book travel took me to New Jersey and Ireland.  Currently reading My Brillant Friend with Susan at The Cue Card so I am immersed in an Italian town.

Currently doing a buddy read with Susan at The Cue Card.  We are immersed in 1950's Italian culture with My Brilliant Friend by  Elena Ferrante.

That's it for the round up.   Looking forward to more good reading in November. I'd love to know what books you favored this month.

  1. I haven't seen any of those gloating signs around here, and I hope I never do! I like the cover and title of The Woman Behind the Door. Will look it up. Have a good weekend.

    1. Harvee, I considered posting a photo of it and decided I didn't want that trash on my blog. It showed a man and woman holding hands, a cross, a gun and an American flag flying above with the statement "Don't forget why you moved here".
      Seriously?!

I just grabbed another Roddy Doyle book as I forgot how much I like him!

    1. Thank you, I don't expect things to settle down much but....staying out of the mess right now.

  3. Gloating signs! Holy crap that’s evil. I am so angry about the election. The people who voted for the demented narcissist can’t even understand a tariff. Combine it with misogyny and racism, and this is what we get.

    1. Olivia, it is so evil. I'm hoping for the best but if I could move right away, I definitely would.

  4. Since Wednesday morning, I've been in such a funk and haven't felt like being on the computer much, but decided to catch up on my favorite blogs today. Outward gloating with new yard signs in your neighborhood? I would have a very hard time with that! Honestly, I am quite sick about the presidential results and my husband and I have talked a bit about moving to Canada after my mom is gone. I have citizenship, so I should have an easier time than those just wishing to flee the US. We shall see. It would be a big move.

I wish I had time to join you and Susan with your buddy read. I may get to it sometime next year. I tried it once on audio, but I would like to give it a second chance and go with the print edition.

Hope you're having a good weekend, Tina.

    1. Hi Les, I'm glad you came by and it is Always nice to hear from you! Canada sounds great but we don't have the option. Even before the election we wanted to leave Florida for a varirty of reasons.
Reading quite a bit lately !

  5. Politics has seemed so fraught throughout my adult life. As a kid it didn't seem so... divided. I don't know if that's just because I was a kid, though.

    1. Nicky, I think things were more civil then. There's always the divide about which "tema" you want though. Be it politics, sports or whatever!

  7. Texas is a sad place these days, too. I usually go to the Texas Book Festival in Austin to each year to renew my hope for the world, but I can't even get my enthusiasm up for that wonderful event. I'm horrified to hear about the gloating signs. I haven't seen those here yet, but I've seen plenty of gloating people.

Thank you again for the lovely surprise you sent in the mail this week. You and our other reader friends are a big part of what keeps me going, and I thank you so much for that!

    1. Deb, I ought to have posted a photo of it as one blogger said "I haven't seen any "gloating" signs around here. Yeah...she is in Hawaii so she wouldn't see it in Florida. But I didn't want that negative/judgemental photo crap on my blog.

The Austin book festival sounds fun, I have never been to one....a book festival. Happy the card arrived xoxo

  8. A virtual visit to Italy in the 1950s sounds like a healthy escape, right now.

    1. Joy, it is interesting reading about the society there in the 50's....I am planning to read the second book in the series after I tackle some of my library holds.

  9. It's the comments on TikTok that boggle my mind. Their guy won. Why are they continuing to be mean and hateful and boasting and bragging and teasing and taunting? I don't get it.

LOKI is enough to put a smile on my face today. And those tacos!!! Yum!

    1. Jinjer, I don't get it either....it's just a meaner world now and that's a shame. Loki says hello!!

  10. We haven't had any gloating signs here - or at least none that I've seen thankfully. I really want to try My Brilliant Friend. I've heard such wonderful things about her books.
You absolutely need to visit the wolf preserve in Chipley! It's a bit out in the middle of nowhere but absolutely fascinating. They do group tours on the weekends and private tours during the week. It's not inexpensive but you can tell where the money goes and the animals are so well cared for.

    1. Katherine, glad to hear you haven;t seen the signs. Probably just an old crank who put up the sign here. It said Don't Forget why you moved to Florida under all that trash . Uh...maybe because it's tax friendly or people wanting warm weather?

We will make it a point to see the wolf preserve, glad you mentioned it.

  11. Loki is adorable :) And I'm definitely planning to update passports for me and my kids. The election results are icky, and the gloating especially. Ugh.

  12. Yeah glad you mentioned our read-along! Thanks for your Loki photo --- so sweet to see. As you know, I'm really having a tough time with the outcome but our buddy read is helping. I can't imagine having to face those signs. Brutal. I'm done with my PW review finally so I can get back to Ferrante soon, yay. Hope you're having a peaceful Sunday.
