Reading and Watching

I know I have mentioned being appreciative for having access to such a good library in previous posts.  They keep me in entertainment and I don't spend any money.  If a book or movie isn't for me, I just return it.  This week's bounty has been good.

This week I finished Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. Review HERE.  My husband wanted the latest Godzilla movie and we watched/read that.  It's all subtitled and the special effects were cool.

Into season 5 now of Madam Secretary and will finish that series before the end of January. Alas, I did not get to Moonflower Murders in time but have returned it and placed a new hold.

Today I watched The Quiet Girl, an Irish film based on the book Foster by Claire Keegan.  As I said in the review of the book, the themes of kindness, hopefulness and love bring this short story to life, both on film as well as the book.

The Irish country setting was beautiful and reminded me of places we'd visited many years ago.

That's it for the week. Hope your week was good.

Loki‘s in there somewhere!

  1. Ah, with this arctic air coming to Houston tonight, that's where I'd cuddle up, too.

Our library is excellent here as well. I often check out videos from the library. People kid me about using DVDs, but I'm not sure why. They are free and easy to obtain!

    1. Deb, I use DVDs all the time. Most people can't conceive that not all of us have access to streaming. My granddaughter thinks it's archaic, haha.

We are projected for snow later this week. I'll believe it when I see it.

  2. Loki is shutting out the world this week for good reason! It seems your library is very good & easy. My library was excellent in the city -- a really large inventory but now that I'm a nonresident they no longer allow me digital access to ebooks or audios on Libby, grrr. Something about copyrights blah. I'm glad you mentioned The Quiet Girl as I read Foster a while ago. The movie looks fetching. Wishing you a nice weekend!

    1. Susan, Loki is staying warm for sure. He's a bit spoiled but after his initial three years he deserves it.
That's awful you can't have digital access. Not sure if you can apply for a nonresident "card" account but my library has that option. Then nonresidents of the county can access all materials.

  3. I was excited to see Moonflower Murders! But I'm sure that you'll get to it, eventually. That's another nice thing about libraries is that you can get things back again.

We liked The Quiet Girl, too.

    1. Harvee, he definitely knows how to find the warmest places. He was apparently an outdoor dog the first 3 years of his life so he has taken to comforts happily!

  10. Loki has the right idea, I think!! The county library system down here is excellent, too. Plus our island library gets multiple copies of the most popular books and lots of DVDs, too. I want to watch The Quiet Girl, so I'm glad you mentioned it. My daughter read Blue Ststers recently and really liked it.

    1. JoAnn, I'm glad your libray is excellent too. Don't know what I'd do without it. The Quiet Girl follows the book Foster well and is, as most Irish stories, sad.

Blue Sisters was a trip. I would read more by that author. Not soon as I do have a nice lineup planned but eventually.

  12. I am grateful for my library too. I don't take advantage of it nearly enough, I'm afraid, but I'm trying to now that I have access to digital and audio materials. The Quiet Girl does sound good. I'll have to check it out. Loki looks so comfy! That's what I look like when I bundle up for bed at night. LOL I hope you have a great week, Tina!

    1. Wendy, the library does save me money and since I am in a rural area the DVDs are our entertainment. The Quiet Girl was as sad as the book yet themes of hope are there. Hope you like it.

  13. I read Foster a few months ago and it just about broke my heart. Why have children if you can't support them?

  14. I'll get back to Madam Secretary one of these days. We're almost finished with watching Moonflower Murders and I have to say I'm sorry we've wasted our time. The Magpie Murders was entertaining, but this new series isn't doing a thing for us. We're eager to move on. I did enjoying The Quiet Child/Foster very much. I'm looking forward to watching the film based on Keegan's book, Small Things Like These.
